Gran de Montbui bridge
The Gran de Montbui bridge, built over the Anoia River on the road from Igualada to Valls, connects the southwest sector of the city of Igualada, next to the neighbourhood of the tanneries, to the neighbourhood of Sant Maure in Santa Margarida de Montbui.
The road from Igualada to Valls was provided for in the state plans of 1864 and 1877, but in 1900 was still under construction. The Montbui bridge, also known as the Gran bridge, was designed and built between 1884 and 1895, at the initiative of the Catalanist Centre of Igualada, which promoted a popular subscription led by the Municipal Council. During the Spanish Civil War, it sustained extensive damage and had to be partially rebuilt in the 1940s.
