Format:
Scientific article
Target population:
Local administrations and citizen associations
Objetive:

Improve the quality of life of neighbours through collective material and symbolic construction of public spaces for greater spatial justice and promotion of a citizen culture.

Methodology:

The chosen methodology combines participation techniques aimed at producing physical-spatial transformations that enhance the capacities and resources of the community.

Examples are participation in the diagnostic phase through social mapping, design workshops for decision-making, support in self-construction initiatives, and the participation and institutional coordination necessary for this type of projects.

Opportunities and limitations:

This type of approach can help public bodies to better understand the realities and demands of citizens and propose policies and actions that are more efficient and appropriate to the context.

Suitable for disadvantaged neighbourhoods living in a low-quality urban environment, it involves multiple actors (public, private, community) in all phases of a transformation project.

It is an opportunity to give voice to overlooked groups, and to help empower the community in making decisions about their environment.
