Conjunt d’operacions centrades en garantir la conservació física d’un objecte. Per poder complir amb aquest tasca s’ha de comptar amb professionals de la restauració i conservació. Si bé no és possible retornar la mateixa aparença a l’obra restaurada, quan l’especialista acaba la feina de restauració després de passar pel "laboratori", l’obra serà accessible per a la seva consulta i difusió.
